3. Mitral Valve Also known as the bicuspid valve, it lies between the left atrium and the left ventricle, ensuring that blood flows in one direction.

4. Aortic Valve Located between the left ventricle and the aorta, this valve controls blood flow from the heart to the rest of the body.


Heart Wall Structure


The heart wall is composed of three layers


1. Epicardium The outer layer, providing a protective covering.


2. Myocardium The middle and thickest layer made primarily of cardiac muscle, enabling the heart to contract and pump blood efficiently.


3. Endocardium The inner layer that lines the chambers and valves, ensuring a smooth surface for blood flow.


The Electrical System


The heart also possesses a specialized electrical conduction system, which is vital for coordinating the heartbeat. The sinoatrial (SA) node, often referred to as the heart’s natural pacemaker, initiates the electrical impulses that trigger each heartbeat.
